چکیده

A novel method for feature selection and construction is introduced. The method improves the classification accuracy, utilizing the well-established technique of grammatical evolution by creating non-linear mappings of the original features to artificial ones in order to improve the effectiveness of artificial intelligence tools such as multi-layer perceptron (MLP), Radial-basis-function (RBF) neural networks and nearest neighbor (KNN) classifier. The proposed method has been applied on a series of classification and regression problems and an experimental comparison is carried out against the accuracy obtained on the original features as well as on features created by the PCA method. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Grammatical evolution for features of epileptic oscillations in clinical intracranial electroencephalograms

This paper presents grammatical evolution (GE) as an approach to select and combine features for detecting epileptic oscillations within clinical intracranial electroencephalogram (iEEG) recordings of patients with epilepsy. Clinical iEEG is used in preoperative evaluations of a patient who may have surgery to treat epileptic seizures. Literature suggests that pathological oscillations may indi...

Optimization of the Throughput of Computer Network Based on Parallel EA

This paper describes Parallel Grammatical Evolution (PGE) that can be together with clustering used for a improvement of the throughput of computer networks. To increase the efficiency of Grammatical Evolution (GE) the influence of backward processing was tested. The significance of backward coding (BC) and the comparison with standard coding of GEs is presented. BC can speed up Grammatical Evo...

Novel approach for fetal heart rate classification introducing grammatical evolution

Fetal heart rate (FHR) variations reflect the level of oxygenation and blood pressure of the fetus. Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), the continuous monitoring of the FHR, was introduced into clinical practice in the late 1960s and since then it has been considered as an indispensable tool for fetal surveillance. However, EFM evaluation and its merit is still an open field of controversy, main...

Word similarity using constructions as contextual features

1 We propose and implement an alternative source of contextual features for word similarity detection based on the notion of lexicogrammatical construction. On the assumption that selectional restrictions provide indicators of the semantic similarity of words attested in selected positions, we extend the notion of selection beyond that of single selecting heads to multiword constructions exerti...

Grammatical Evolution by Grammatical Evolution: The Evolution of Grammar and Genetic Code

This study examines the possibility of evolving the grammar that Grammatical Evolution uses to specify the construction of a syntactically correct solution. As the grammar dictates the space of symbols that can be used in a solution, its evolution represents the evolution of the genetic code itself. Results provide evidence to show that the coevolution of grammar and genetic code with a solutio...
